FROM THE CHAIRPERSON’S DESK

This is the first time that I am writing to you in my capacity as the Chairperson of LIASA Limpopo 2012 – 2014. Congratulations and welcome on board to all the members of the new Branch Executive Committee and Interest Group Committees for the term of office 2012-2014. Thank you for making yourself available to serve the Branch and the profession in this way.  We must take this opportunity to thank our employers for allowing and supporting us in our journey to continue building the Branch. I want to thank Branch members for trusting me to provide leadership in our Branch.

 I am indeed fortunate that I will be able to build upon a very strong foundation that has been put in place by the leaders of the Branch that went before me. Am taking this opportunity to thank and congratulate the previous Chairperson of the Branch, Ms Mercy Mokgele, for a good job she has done during her term of office.

What I want to achieve during my term of office:

 

Ø  To make our Branch competitive

Ø  To grow membership in the province, especially within the FET Sector

Ø  Visibility through Marketing and advocacy etc.

Ø  To form a good partnership with relevant stakeholders

For these to be achieved, we will need strong, dedicated, committed and capable cadres in the BEC to take our Branch forward. This is not an individual journey but a group one. We will need support from the Branch Members; we will need support from our employers and colleagues to build our branch.

This is the first newsletter from the new BEC, more like an introductory newsletter. The newsletter is for the Branch, not only Executive Committee. We encourage our members to contribute to it. Send your inputs, stories, advices, ideas etc. to the Branch PRO. The BEC met for the first time on Friday 30^th November 2012 at the University of Limpopo Library to draw our Year Plan. We have planned lots of activities, meetings, social gatherings, and workshops etc. where we are planning to meet all our members in the province. We are encouraging our members to come for the meetings and interact with the Branch Leadership. We have decided to create a social network page for the Branch which will give our members an opportunity to interact with each other in the name of LIASA. This will be communicated in due course.

The Branch Meeting of the year will be in February. Library Week will be celebrated from 16-23 March 2013 and the BEC decided to celebrate it in one of the Public Libraries in Vhembe District. More details to follow. The theme for this year’s SALW is “Educate Yourself at Your Library”. The BEC is ready to take on the challenges faced by our Branch. In the words of the previous Chairperson, Mercy Mokgele, ‘Limpopo Branch is going places and it will grow stronger as we work together and support communities we serve. We should all be proud of being LIASA members and serve the Association with pride to make it a success’.
